The great state of North Carolina is known as the "Old North State" or the "Tar Heel State". The capital of North Carolina is Raleigh, NC. The state bird is the Cardinal. The North Carolina state flower is the Dogwood. North Carolina is considered stock racing and hoops heaven.

The ACC Tournament has been dominated by North Carolina for over 50 years. Michael Jordan was college player of the year at North Carolina in 1984; won six NBA titles with the Chicago Bulls and was a two time Olympic gold medal winner.

It is also the home state of stock car racing legends Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt. Richard Petty is a 7 time Daytona 500 Champion, tops NASCAR in wins (200), poles (127), and wins in a season (27 in 1967). Dale Earnhardt is the All-Time NASCAR money winner (34 million dollars), 7-time points leader and 6th in career wins with 73.
